JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Production Lead is responsible for day-to-day operations within the production department. Accountable for meeting the department production and quality goals, as well as playing a role in meeting the company wide safety, quality, profitability and customer satisfaction goals. Lead and direct the work of assigned production personnel. Responsible for employee development as it relates to technical and personal development. Must maintain a positive department attitude and ensure that all employees under your supervision are aligned with the company goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor production to ensure the assigned department meets established goals while maintaining a safe work environment and quality standards.
  • Visually inspect product throughout processing to ensure it meets food safety and company requirements.
  • Work in a team environment with other department leads to coordinate production schedules to achieve required deadlines and objectives.
  • Participate in designing and implementing continuous improvement processes.
  • Maintain compliance of company policies and procedures, GMP’s, safety and quality standards, food safety measures, OSHA and other safety regulations.
  • Participate in implementation of demonstrated best practices and consistent policies.
  • Responsible for shift schedule to include: work station assignments, employee training, employee vacation, employee breaks, overtime assignment and accurately completing shift paperwork.
  • Help develop and implement safety awareness programs, communicate safety issues, correct safety related problems, and participate in investigations of safety related issues.
  • Develop department employees through orientation, training, communication of rules and policies, while building employee morale and motivation.
  • Take necessary action to eliminate delays, ensuring adherence to production and shipping schedules.
  • Participate and enhance expertise in productivity improvement programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate ability to develop and lead a group of production personnel.
  • Familiar with team building techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn and operate all processing equipment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to make effective decisions under pressure, work within deadlines and the ability to work flexibly.
  • Good understanding of health and safety best practices within a manufacturing environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage twenty or more production employees in the assigned production department.
  • Responsible for the overall coordination, and evaluation of assigned production department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include training employees; assigning, and directing work; appraise and maintain records of performance; rewarding, recommend disciplinary action; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree preferred or 2+ years of manufacturing experience as a production lead or supervisor.
  • Food industry experience preferred, not required.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Suite, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word Processing Software.
